Men buy jewelry differently. Most don't want a lot. They want one or two things they never take off, and that don't look like "too much". So here's what we tell men who come into the shop, and women buying them a gift.
A gold necklace for a man
The necklace is the most common men's piece. What decides whether it suits him is the type of link and the thickness.
- Rope. Links that twist like a braided rope. It returns light, looks full, and works on its own or with a pendant.
- Curb and Cuban. Flat or rounded links that interlock. A clearly masculine look that lies close to the chest.
- Figaro. One long link and a few short ones. An Italian classic.
On thickness: a thin chain suits someone who wears it under his shirt, or with a small pendant. A thick chain is a piece in its own right, and heavier too. If it's his first necklace, he's better off starting with a medium thickness.
On length: men usually wear a slightly longer necklace than women, one that sits below the collarbone. The safe way is to measure a necklace that already sits well. You'll find all the necklaces in men's gold necklaces.
A gold bracelet for a man
A link bracelet on the wrist, alone or next to a watch, is a clean, confident look.
- Curb. Flat links. Classic and suits any age.
- Figaro. A long link and short ones, in a bracelet too.
- Monaco and rectangular links. Dense, polished links, a modern look.
The size that matters in a bracelet is the length. Measure the wrist with a tape measure or a string, and add about 1.5 to 2 cm so the bracelet moves comfortably. On some of our bracelets the length is in the model name, for example 19 cm or 21 cm. If he wears the bracelet next to a watch, he should choose a bracelet thinner than the watch strap. See men's gold bracelets.
A ring for a man
Signet ring
A ring with a flat surface on top. Once it was used to seal letters; today it's worn as a piece with character. Some are plain, and some have a black stone (onyx). On a plain surface you can engrave a letter or initials, and engraving is free with us.
Plain band
A simple gold band, wide or narrow. Worn as a wedding ring, or just as an everyday ring.
On size: men's fingers are usually thicker, and so are their knuckles. Measure at the end of the day, and make sure the ring gets over the knuckle. And for a wide ring (more than 6 mm), go up half a size. All the methods are in How to find your ring size, and the rings are in men's gold rings. The first resize of a ring bought from us is free, under our terms.
A pendant for a man
A pendant gives a necklace meaning. Many men choose a symbol that stays with them: a Star of David, chai, a hamsa, the Tablets of the Covenant or a menorah. A men's pendant looks good with a medium-thickness rope or curb chain. Our pendant prices include a chain. See men's gold pendants.
14K gold for men
Every piece on our site is made of 14K gold. For men that's a real advantage: 14K gold is harder than higher-purity gold, so a necklace and bracelet that go through a workday, sport and a phone keep their shape better. The full explanation is in 14K gold.
Still, gold jewelry doesn't like the gym. Take off your necklace and bracelet before a workout, sleep and cleaning with chemicals.
Several pieces together
The simplest rule for men: less is more. One necklace, one bracelet or a watch, and a ring. Three pieces at once is usually the most that looks good. Keep the same gold color across all your jewelry too, and with a bracelet next to a watch, match the watch's color.
And if it's his first piece? Start with a medium-thickness necklace or a signet ring. Those are the pieces men get used to fastest, and after a few days they stop taking them off.
Yellow or white
Yellow gold is the classic look for men's jewelry. White gold suits someone who wears a silver-toned watch or prefers a quieter look. When a model comes in more than one tone, you choose it on the product page.
Buying a gift for a man?
The safest is a necklace or a pendant, because you don't need a size. A bracelet means knowing his wrist size, and a ring needs an exact size. If you know which watch or jewelry he already wears, match the gold color to it. Engraving and gift wrap are free.
You can see all the men's jewelry in one place: men's jewelry, all products.

Frequently asked questions
Which gold necklace suits a man?
A medium-thickness rope, curb or figaro chain suits most men. If he wears a pendant, he'll choose a simpler chain.
How do I know the right bracelet length for a man?
Measure around the wrist and add about 1.5 to 2 cm so the bracelet moves comfortably.
What is a signet ring?
A ring with a flat surface on top, plain or with a stone. You can engrave a letter or initials on the surface.
Can I work out wearing a gold necklace?
Better to take it off. During a workout the necklace stretches and catches, and sweat dulls the shine.
What's the safest gift for a man?
A necklace or a pendant, because you don't need to know a size. Engraving and gift wrap are free.
Yellow or white gold for a man?

Can a signet ring be engraved?
Yes. On a plain surface you can engrave a letter or initials, and engraving is free.
How do I choose the thickness of a man's gold necklace?
If he wears it under his shirt or with a small pendant, choose a thin to medium chain. If he wants the chain to be the piece itself, choose a thicker one. It's best to see and try them in the shop.
